BARAJAS AIRPORT

Description:
1. INTRODUCTION The Spanish Ministry of Public Works’ 2000-2007 Transport Infrastructure Plan (PIT), which includes initiatives for extending Madrid-Barajas Airport, proposes three fundamental objectives: to serve as an instrument for achieving total convergence in Spain, to facilitate the integration of the Spanish transport networks with its transEuropean counterparts, and to contribute towards the territorial integration and cohesion of our country.

This Transport Infrastructure Plan, which is currently underway with an expected completion date of 2010, is structured in five major sections: Roads, Railways, Ports, Airports and Postal Services, with a total combined allocated investment of almost 105,000 million euros. The purpose of the section on airports is to modernise and increase air transport capacity in order to increase the efficiency of and complement the steering plans of all Spanish airports.

The main projects included in this Barajas Plan, which is an Infrastructure Plan derived from the development of the Airport Steering Plan, have the main objective of extending and commissioning the Airport. These multiple complex projects are grouped around two main concepts: A The New Terminal Area, and B The Extension of the Flying Field.

THE NEW TERMINAL AREA
The New Terminal Area (NAT) includes a new Terminal Building, the Satellite Building, Car parks and Accesses, an Automatic Inter-terminal Passenger Mover System (APM), and also the diversion and underground routing of the M-111 motorway, a project that has already been completed and carried out by a Joint Venture (UTE, in Spanish) formed by two companies in our Group: OHL and ELSAN. These also include platforms, electric power plants, a cogeneration plant, an airport services tunnel, urban planning initiatives and other projects.
